To celebrate receiving one much needed paycheck, I went ahead and bought two t-shirts I've been a-lustin' after for the past few months:

Smoking Nun T-shirt

Catholic school represent.

&

Bi-polar t-shirt

I kind of wish they still had the gray ones, but it used to be $72 so bitch can't complain.

Tilly and the Wall is this weekend and I am really, really excited. Oh my god.

WANT No. 9875 [Apr. 26th, 2008|12:51 pm]
Sara
[music |Los Campesinos!]

My entries seem to consist of two things in the last few months: materialistic paeans to things that I want and whinefests. Today's entry will be the former. Dorm life without money has driven me to searching through blogs and online stores with eye candy a go-go that I can't afford. I miss those sweet, albeit brief moments when I did have something resembling disposable income. I like college okay, but I like summer vacation + having a decent kind of fun job even better at this point, particularly after having nearly a year and a half of non-stop education breathing down my neck. I guess this entry qualifies as a whinefest too. Anyway, here's yet another list of overpriced, yet pretty bits of matter that I've been stalking on the internet for the past few weeks. Enjoy, and then proceed to never talk to me again because I'm a whiny bag of unmotivated, consumerist sad. :D

I kind of hate dressing myself because usually when I put together an outfit, it comes off as misguided and a tad ill-fitting. I like to describe my body type as "lumpy", which isn't particularly amazing for the clothing I lust after (and totally says a lot about my self-esteem...). Despite having such utterly earth-shaking woes, I still like clothes. A lot.

There's no need for spring/summer coats in Houston (or in Texas at all), but dang they're cute. I'm totally in love with the idea of not only having a killer dress for my non-existent nights out, but an equally killer jacket on top of that.

This Lorick jacket is adorable and could also double as a dress! Unfortunately, multi-tasking does not justify a $500 price tag. Dammit.

This cropped trench from UO is a little more in my price range and just more reasonable style wise. I might attempt to actually get this if Forever 21 or Target doesn't come up with a $30/40 version within the next few months. A girl in my financial state can't be too picky about quality.

So, I'm pretty much in love with anything that Lorick puts out at this point. Maybe it's because I secretly watch Gossip Girl online and they have a bunch of subliminal advertising for their clothes in the show. Also, following 4 years of attending Duchesne, I'm strangely drawn to the blue/yellow color palette that over-saturated my eyes during my high school years. Did I actually admit that I watch Gossip Girl? Yeah...

Cutecutecutecutecute.

I decided that Built By Wendy could do no wrong when Wendy Mullin seemingly based a chunk of her spring line on prints and details one would find in a Vera Bradley catalog and make it chic as hell. I'm devoting part of my summer to working with my Sew U book and a few of her patterns so I can recreate some of her stuff.

What I've seen of Megan Park's current collection is pretty much amazing. Some of it is a little more mature than the playful stuff that I go for, but it's all gorgeous nonetheless.

If anyone buys me the Jesse Kamm dress in the middle, I will be eternally grateful. I use the word cute way too liberally (as demonstrated above), but my god it's cute.

I don't intend on retiring my Hi/Bye hoodie any time soon, but these would be nice additions to my wardrobe.

I rarely ever wear jewelry because it gets distracting after a while and I'm too lazy to worry about it. I adore these necklaces, though:

I love hedgehogs and I love simple, unassuming necklaces like the one above (not nearly as much as hedgehogs).

Being a lover of woodland everything, I'm really liking the faux bois trend that's been popping up in the design world for a while.

I'm going to stop here because this is getting tedious and depressing. The list is considerably longer, though. I wish I could major in finding pretty things right now.

Almost done almost done almost done [Apr. 13th, 2008|05:34 pm]
Sara
[music |Camera Obscura through Carolynn's laptop]

I have one more month to go until I get to have my first real summer vacation in about 3 years. Holy shit I'm excited. None of that summer school  business. I'm excited about getting back to my job too. Last week I made a list of everything I want to do over vacation and it's long. So far it includes cooking, baking, more cooking, making my own clothes (I finally get to use my beloved Built By Wendy patterns + book), crafting like crazy, and learning to play guitar. All I have to do is stay away from America's Next Top Model reruns and I'm set. I blame my lack of productivity during breaks on Tyra Banks.

In an unrelated note, everyone needs to catch Colin Meloy during his solo tour. Wow.

Mrahhhhh [Mar. 29th, 2008|03:39 pm]
Sara
I have a terrible feeling that once I croak, all things in the name of academia and productivity will collectively spit on my grave. I mean, is it terrible that the highlight of my day was eating a rather delicious orange while sipping tea and listening to particularly wonderful album as opposed to completing school work that has been hanging over my head for weeks? I pretty much fail at completing anything worthwhile done (not to say fruit, tea, and music isn't worthwhile). Maybe I like the feeling of assignments breathing down my neck. Could I possibly enjoy looking through folders of half-assed, not quite complete work? I really hate it. I feel like I owe myself extra time to do absolutely nothing and it's feelings like those that make scraping my brain out seem like a completely worthy idea. Unfortunately, these habits aren't anything new. When teachers compare you to a brick more than once through your academic career, obviously something is wrong. I kind of developed aversions to attention spans, fulfilling basic completion grades, and critical thinking while embracing loafing, a sense of entitlement with free time, and apathy over the past 13 years of schooling.

Sorry for the whine session.

WANT.

Also, how lame is it that MIA announces tour dates and a presale in my state of utter brokeness. The nerve. Oh god I hope that the store I applied to calls me back and hires me. I'm on the way to the Taco Bell diet right now.

I hated science fairs and I really hated county science fairs that kids had to go to even if they got the prize below "Honorable Mention" because the kids in second and third place knew better than to agree to go to the godawful county science fair. Anyway, this blog entry made me a bit nostalgic about my brief encounter with science fair victory. If only I had the balls to do a "Crystal Meth: Friend or Foe" project...

Lists and lists [Oct. 20th, 2007|03:55 pm]
Sara
[music |Joanna Newsom]

I'm trying to avoid anything that requires brain function over  weekends, so I'm just making an entry of lists. Okay, I'm lying, but that's just because I haven't made a proper entry since coming to Bevo-land for the Fall.

Favorite things at the moment!

1. Sleep. Lots and lots of sleep.
2. Peanut butter. I think one of my most redeeming qualities is that I'm not allergic to peanut butter. The world would seem so much harsher without it.
3.  Honest Tea: Just Green. I picked this up at Whole Foods today and I likes it. It's kind of strong so I have to dilute it with water, but that means more servings! My friend and I came to the realization that we're 65-year-olds in 18-year-old bodies and this is just further evidence of that. Anyway, I hate tea with sugar in it (save for some citron teas) and this does the job.
3.
I just bought this (sad, because it came out last year and I regret not hearing more from them earlier) and it's lovely. Actually, I don't regret buying this later because I picked up one of the 500 limited edition white vinyl LPs, so go me. It's pretty, I tell ya.
4. My new plant. I'm so not going to kill it like I did with my orchid. It's a little ghost plant and it's adorable. Plus, since it's a succulent, I don't have to water it as much. I AM AN OLD LADY.
5. Getting A's on papers I shit out the day before class. It was one of two papers I have to write this semester and by some miracle I did a pretty good job. Thank you private school for teaching me how to BS with style.
6. Reading non-course material. Okay, so it makes me cram before the test, but I'm doing a lot more reading than I expected. The 10 minutes before my Geography lecture is my prime reading time.
7. Not having to go to the cafeteria. Kinsolving has the best food on campus, sure. It's just awkward as hell to go there alone during lunch when I'd rather eat in my room. However, I now have some Amy's Palak Paneer to remedy that.
8. The weather right now. I like overcast days, but I tend to like cloudless days even better. No humidity and everything just looks prettier. Some music sounds better in the light too. Hard to explain, but true. Bees are also fans of the weather, but I'll deal.
9. Dhaba Joy. Vegan cupcakes! Lavender lemonade! Attractive staff! Walking distance! I might just faint.
10. Construction paper. I've been making Halloween decorations and it's my medium of choice right now.

Records I Bought This Past Week (I just got some more graduation money, so I've been participating in a small shopping spree before I have to hide my debit card again.):

Fleetwood Mac, Rumours
Elliott Smith, s/t
Angels of Light, We Are Him
Beach House, s/t
EITS, The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place (I all ready have it digitally, but the packaging was too pretty not to get it.)
Mono, You Are There

So far, I'm happy with 'em.

I'll post more soon. I have pictures that I need to upload (meaning burn to disc on a lab computer), so I'll post those.

Updates and such (Bootylicious version) [Mar. 13th, 2007|05:33 pm]
Sara
[Tags|, , , ]

So... I'm seeing Beyonce on Thursday... f'reals... and not just for ironic purposes.

In other news:

- I've spent the last few weeks being completely apathetic to most school work. Somehow I'll work out being exempt which means witchcraft instead of actual effort.
- Turned 18 about 2 weeks ago and I haven't done much to celebrate the year of sin other than actually getting my license and registering to vote. I'm too cheap and too lazy to buy lotto tickets/porn/ciggarettes at this point.
- 18th birthday was also field day. I hate field day, but I also hate actually attending classes at this point so senioritis made field day more enjoyable. Kind of.
- Saw Explosions in the Sky on the 7th. They destroyed as usual, but they need a no frat boy policy at their shows. I met up with Sean and Amanda (who were fantastic concert buddies) and met Munaf afterwards (I totally have his DNA guys!).
-Spring Break so far is super boring, but I'm getting some reading in and hopefully I'll be meeting with friends in the near future.
